SORC 1998

Graphs of how the new rating formula change affects the results of SORC '96.

The following is our test of the new rating formula modification on our test database of SORC '96. This series had three light air and three heavy air races with very competent boats and sailors. It is the most reliable sampling we have untill possibly SORC97.

To give meaning to the data labels in the graphs here are the boats with their designs and skippers:

You'll notice how the line gets fairly flat in the light air races and ramps up steeply from the F25C's to the rest of the fleet. It is this apparent medium to high wind design advantage that we are attempting to neutralize with this change. Please keep in mind the fastest F25C skipper was Randy Smyth and for statistical reasons should not be included in the graph at all. We rate boats not skippers.

The cumulative is based on 6 races to 8 hours of racing.
The third place F25C (Teloh) moves back two places and Styne and Onsgard (both F27s) both move up two places into third and fourth.
